About Woodgreen

Woodgreen’s dedicated teams work tirelessly to provide safe shelter, specialist care, and a brighter future for thousands of dogs, cats and small pets.

Ever since we first opened our doors in north London in 1924, we’ve been transforming pets’ lives – and through them, the lives of their owners.

Adopt a rescue pet from Woodgreen

We rescue and rehome a wide range of pets, from dogs and cats to rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and other small pets. Many of the pets in our care, whether they’re a lurcher or a Dwarf Lop, have very specific needs when it comes to their new forever home and we work hard to find every pet the perfect match based on their needs.

The difference we make for pets and their humans

Here for pets in need

Our rehoming centre in Godmanchester is purpose-built with pets in mind. We help dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, and other small pets. In 2019 we supported 8,448 pets.

Here for the long haul

Because we take in unwanted pets and strays regardless of their needs, some of our animals need a lot of time and care before they're ready to look for a new owner.
Some pets can stay with us for more than 300 days.

Here for owners

We offer advice, support and training for all kinds of pet owners.
Whether you need advice on toilet training your dog, want to join a rabbit care workshop, or have a more complex question, we're here to help.

We're here for pets like Chewy

Chewy was brought to Woodgreen due to his behavioural problems. He also experienced lameness which meant as a young, high energy dog, he became very frustrated.

He was nervous around humans and uncomfortable around children,  and our behavioural specialists spent a lot of time training and supporting Chewy to get him used to people again. Even with all of the extra support, Chewy was still a nervous dog, and we knew we needed to find a very specific home for this beautiful boy.

We placed him with one of our experienced fosterers, and after multiple visits from his new owner, Chewy finally found his forever home after spending 339 days in our care. He’s now called Hugo!

Giving Grant a chance

Stray West Highland terrier Grant was left abandoned by the side of the road, and brought to Woodgreen by a dog warden who found him. With time and patience, he regained his trust in humans and found his way into a loving new home.
