About Wood Green

Welcome to Wood Green, the Animals Charity - home of Channel Four's The Dog House. We help unloved and and unwanted pets get back on their paws, and find them the perfect owner and a new forever home.

Ever since we first opened our doors in north London in 1924, we’ve been transforming pets’ lives – and through them, the lives of owners. From those humble beginnings we’ve grown into one of the UK’s largest pet charities and our converted farm in Godmanchester is purpose-built, ready to help dogs, cats and more.

In 2019 we cared for 4,269 dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and rodents. And alongside our animal care and rehoming services, we help thousands of pet owners with advice, support, and training so they can give their pet everything they need.

Here for pets in need

Our rehoming centre in Godmanchester is purpose-built with pets in mind. We help dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, chickens and sometimes even goats! In 2019 we cared for 4,269 pets - that's 80 a week.

Here for the long haul

Because we take in unwanted pets and strays regardless of their needs, some of our animals need a lot of time and care before they're ready to look for a new owner.
Some pets can stay with us for more than 300 days.

Here for owners

We offer advice, support and training for all kinds of pet owners.
Whether you need advice on toilet training your dog, want to join a rabbit care workshop, or have a more complex question, we're here to help.

We're here for pets like Chewy

Chewy, a white crossbreed in a garden

Chewy was brought to Wood Green due to his behavioural problems. He also experienced lameness which meant as a young, high energy dog, he became very frustrated.

He was nervous around humans and uncomfortable around children,  and our behavioural specialists spent a lot of time training and supporting Chewy to get him used to people again. Even with all of the extra support, Chewy was still a nervous dog, and we knew we needed to find a very specific home for this beautiful boy.

We placed him with one of our experienced fosterers, and after multiple visits from his new owner, Chewy finally found his forever home after spending 339 days in our care. He’s now called Hugo!
